Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and long break! As I told the students today, we are on the upswing towards fifth grade now. Academics are really going to start to amp up, and I am going to be holding them more accountable for their work inside, and outside, of the classroom. If you can help to hold them at a higher standard, I think that we will have a super successful rest of the school year.
That being said, below are a few updates for the upcoming month. Also, I am starting a new spelling program with the students. They still have the same amount of basic and challenge words, it is just a more wider variety of activities that they will do each week.
Their next Biography/Autobiography Book Report Title is DUE on Friday, January 9, 2015. I am attaching the options they have for this book report. They also have a questionnaire that they should be completing throughout the reading. This questionnaire is due a week before their report is due. I also would like to reiterate that the students are not allowed to change their books after they have submitted their titles without speaking with me. While I understand that sometimes the books don't turn out to be as wonderful as they hoped, I do think they need to stick it out.
March 26, 2015 is the Annual Science Fair. I will be sending home a letter with the students describing how the science fair works, and all of the due dates for each scientific process of the experiment. For those of you who are new to the school this year, you should know that the entire experiment is done at home. The students will have due dates for each process to help make sure that they are on task throughout the process. Their actual boards, and each process, will be typed up and assembled here at school the last two weeks before the fair.
The next Wordly Wise Quiz is Friday, January 9th.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Best Regards,
Mrs. Z
